Set up a Work Folders Sync Share on Windows Server 2012 R2

Work Folders is a quite interesting feature introduced by Microsoft with Windows Server 2012 R2. In a nutshell, Work Folders is a synchronization service for folders that works in a similar fashion of Dropbox, but in your own network/servers. You can access the synced data from Windows PCs or from mobile devices, an interesting opportunity for your company.

The nice part of this tool is that it’s really simple to deploy. In this tutorial we’ll see how to set up the server side of Work Folders and create a simple Sync Share.

How to create an object storage container with Azure cloud

Thanks to the investements in Azure, Microsoft has become the second largest cloud provider in the world behind Amazon Web Services. Like almost any cloud provider it offers an object storage service that may come in handy to develop online services available on the Internet and through app. You can also use object storage as a backup destination, Uranium Backup and Uranium Cloud Explorer both support Azure.

Why the end of tape is reached

If you use tape drives to store data for your archives or your backups, you probably have seen the error end of tape reached.

And you probably have no idea why you are reaching the end of a tape apparently much larger than the space occupied by the data you want to write on it.

Tape capacity is not an “exact measure” and may vary over time. Let’s see what affects it.

ReFS vs NTFS, a comparison

ReFSResilient File System – is a Microsoft proprietary file system introduced with Windows Server 2012. It’s not a substitute of NTFS, the file system released in 1993 with Windows NT 3.1 and revised many times, still the only available for the installation of a Windows operating system.

The two file systems are a complement of each other, so it’s important to understand their features in order to use them in their full glory.
