Hyper-V is a native hypervisor developed by Microsoft
It’s available in two variants:
- Hyper-V Server [2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2 and 2016], a stand-alone package
- As an installable role for Windows Server 2008 and higher
What is ESXi?
ESXi is a bare metal hypervisor – also known as Type-1 hypervisor – developed by VMware.
In a nutshell, it’s an operating system with an integrated hypervisor.
ESXi is part of the VMware vSphere platform.
